About This Place

Nestled along the scenic Western Esplanade in Hove, Rockwater Hove presents a refined yet welcoming seafood and family-friendly dining experience that is as diverse as it is delightful. Specializing in fresh, vibrant seafood dishes paired with an eclectic menu that caters to all ages, Rockwater stands out as a premier destination for those craving both a taste of the sea and a relaxing atmosphere by the coast.

From the moment you arrive, the refined ambiance is complemented by thoughtful service, as highlighted by numerous patrons who appreciate the attentive and friendly staff. Whether you're celebrating a milestone or simply indulging in a casual meal, Rockwater delivers an inviting environment that feels equally special and comfortable.

The menu is a tempting journey through fresh and richly flavored seafood, alongside classic and innovative dishes that cater to a variety of palates. Signature highlights like the Seafood Platter promise a medley of the ocean’s finest offerings, artfully presented and bursting with freshness. For a lighter, yet deeply satisfying option, the Beetroot & Din Cured Salmon Bagel marries earthiness and the delicate richness of cured salmon, offering a textural delight that’s both wholesome and inspiring.

The culinary adventure doesn’t stop at the main plates. The small plates menu showcases dishes like the smoky and creamy Smoked Aubergine Houmous served on grilled flatbread, or the indulgently crispy BBQ Corn Ribs glazed in fiery harissa and guac mayo – perfect for sharing or nibbling alongside expertly crafted drinks. Speaking of drinks, their cocktail list rivals the kitchen with delights such as the zesty, refreshing Chilli Margarita and the smooth, rich Espresso Martini, both ideal companions to the flavors on your plate.

For families, the thoughtfully crafted kids’ menu offers beloved standards like the Margherita and Pepperoni pizzas, ensuring little ones are as well catered for as the adults. Breakfast lovers will appreciate the full range of morning options, from a hearty Full English Breakfast to a delicately balanced Beetroot Latte or perfectly pulled Oat Cappuccino, making Rockwater a destination not just for lunch or dinner, but any meal of the day.

One of the most praised aspects of Rockwater is the attentive and thoughtful service. Guests frequently mention how the staff goes above and beyond to create memorable experiences. For instance, Josh Mills shared a heartfelt story of celebrating his mother’s 80th birthday here, noting the care taken to accommodate her hearing aids with a quieter table placement. Similarly, Will Thistlethwaite was so impressed by the personalized service that Rockwater’s team provided for his wife’s birthday that he vowed to return despite living 250 miles away.

Rockwater is also well-regarded for its lively yet comfortable atmosphere. Whether you’re sipping cocktails on the terrace basking in the evening sun or savoring a meal inside surrounded by tasteful décor, the restaurant balances sophistication with a laid-back vibe that invites guests to linger and savor the moment. Even those who had initially underestimated the place, like Raf who once cycled past in hesitation, found themselves delightfully surprised by both the food and the welcoming hospitality.

While service can sometimes be brisk due to popularity—as noted by one reviewer—a charming balance of efficiency and warmth generally defines the experience. The management’s commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction is evident, making Rockwater a standout on the Brighton and Hove dining scene.

Whether you’re a local or a visitor to the coast, Rockwater Hove offers a polished, heartfelt seafood and family dining destination where thoughtfully prepared dishes meet exceptional service and an atmosphere you won’t want to leave. For an unforgettable meal that feels both indulgent and homely, this seaside gem is a must-visit.

We celebrated my mother’s 80th birthday at Rockwater and couldn’t have asked for a more perfect evening. The staff gave us a beautiful table in a quieter zone, which was ideal for my mother who wears hearing aids—such a thoughtful touch. The food was absolutely excellent. My mum and dad both had the fish and chips, which they loved, and I had the steak. The chips were so delicious I ended up stealing them from three other plates—I just couldn’t get enough! For dessert, the mango sorbet was a standout: intensely flavourful, refreshing, and a true delight to end the meal. Special mention must go to our waitress Vicky, who was incredibly attentive throughout the evening, and Daniel, who helped serve our food with charm and humour—he really added to the celebration. Rockwater was the perfect setting to celebrate a milestone birthday, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for great food, thoughtful service, and a memorable experience

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Rockwater Bar and Grill. The food was amazing all the service staff were friendly and tended to our every need. I made a request to make my wife’s birthday extra special and they went above and beyond. I live 250 miles away but be sure the next time I’m in Brighton I’ll be back!! Rock on Rockwater!!

I have cycled past Rockwater so many times and I’ve always felt an air of mystery around it. “This place looks too classy for my presence?” I would think. However, I finally plucked up the courage to go and suffice to say I had a pretty classy time. Food was amazing and surprisingly fast out of the kitchen, also I’m tempted to copy some of the decorum for home. Thank you for the hospitality!

Went for my friend’s birthday drinks on the terrace & had the most amazing cocktails/food! Started off with some chilli margs & sampled some of the new startets off the summer menu - delicious! Everything was perfect & a big shout out to Tim & Rich for making it even more special for my friend’s birthday with exceptional service from the get go! Cannot recommend this place enough for any occasion!

Great reputation and the staff and food are pleasant. Unfortunately having to wait 45 minutes for our hot drinks cast a pall over the experience. Not entirely the staff at fault as they were very busy. However with a little more thought from the management then I feel sure such issues would be overcome. Nice place and regardless I do recommend.

Popped in for the Easter Sunday roast. Service was great, staff were really friendly and attentive. Atmosphere is excellent with sea views as the building is as close to beachfront as you can get. Great place to meet friends, have a drink and enjoy life. The food was probably the only downer here. Portions were generous, but my lamb roast was over-cooked (super chewy) and the meals were generally dry (not enough gravy). We chose not to have dessert because the mains disappointed. 8/10 recommend.

The oysters are delicious! The place is beautiful, but we waited so long... It seemed like they went to catch those oysters for us I was also a little upset by the menu for children, I didn't really like it, it looked like it came from a shop. In general, everything is not bad.

We had an absolutely lovely family experience at Rockwater in Hove! Tim was such a kind and welcoming host, and really took care of us when we arrived and throughout. The food was absolutely excellent; by far and away the best fresh seafood dishes we’ve had in the area, all prepared fantastically. The views and atmosphere were lovely, too! We’ve visited in the past, and will definitely be back! Highly recommended! Thank you Tim and team for a wonderful evening!
